Gear ratio coverage is always a critical issue when deciding the configuration of your bike. The ideal gear ratio depends on the rider's strength, the terrains of the rides, and the bike's structure. When it comes to folding bike, the limitation is even tougher to break. Most folding bikes are designed for single chainring with IGH to achive multiple gear ratios. This limitation sacrifices the ridability and often increases overall bike weight because of the IGH.
This is where the ATS Speed-Drive comes into play. What is speed drive? Think of it as the gearbox on your car. with an easy gear shift action (can be heel kick in our case), you get to change the gear ratio up to 250%. Crazy? Not really.
Speed Drive will make the chainring spins at a higher rate. This means, for instance, a 27 tooth chainring with speed-drive engaged will work like a 2.5 times larger one (68 tooth chainring). That's why speed-drive is often used for fast bikes like recumbents, or folding bikes, where it compensates for the small rear wheel.
